Protecting Your Financial Data

At Fintellect, we understand that your financial data is yours alone. When you use Ease, you are entrusting us to protect this sensitive data. We built Ease to give you greater access and visibility into your financial activity, while ensuring your privacy and security.

The Ease® service is designed to protect your sensitive data to the level that we (the founders and employees of Fintellect®) expect our own data and our families' data to be protected. We hold ourselves to the highest practical standards - for example, our encryption exceeds bank standards and our privacy standards are more stringent than banks (e.g. employees cannot access your financial data).

We collect other data to operate, support, and understand how our products are being used. We strive to collect only what we need to enable expected functionality, improve our products and services, and ensure the privacy and security of our users.

Your Data Rights

Fintellect applies these data rights to all users of our products and web sites, regardless of their location:

In this Privacy Policy, we explain what user information Fintellect receives, handles, and stores; how we protect this information; and how we protect your data rights.

Our Data Silos

We manage different types of user or consumer data differently, and keep different data types separate. Doing so allows us to maintain privacy and best support your data rights. Our data silos are:

  1. Subscription Data - Subscription data is your financial data stored within an Ease Subscription - for example: accounts, transactions, receipts, and account balances. You add this data by typing it in, uploading files, or optionally by connecting to your bank(s) via Bank Integration to enable us to automatically deliver bank data into your Subscription. Ease helps you use this data to track and understand your financial activity, budget, prepare your taxes, or prepare for retirement.

Subscription data is exclusively for you, and any users you add to the subscription ("Authorized Users"), to use. This data is never accessed by our employees or shared with other parties once it is in your Subscription. Note that Bank Integration Partners have access to, and are responsible for, the subset of this data that they retrieve from banks and deliver to us, to add to your Subscription.

We never sell or share your Subscription data - we ensure that it is never accessed by anyone but you, and users you add to your Subscription.

Your Subscription data is collected, processed, stored, and secured in a separate data area, which can only be accessed by users to whom you grant access. The data in each subscription is stored and encrypted separately from all other subscriptions. We use both technology and policy to ensure that only users you assign may access your subscription data. In particular, Fintellect employees cannot access your subscription data.

You can access and change all of your Subscription data within Ease. You can control shared access and review access by users you have added. You can export subsets of your data using reporting and spreadsheet tools. You may download a complete backup that includes all of your Subscription data at any time.

When you end an Ease Subscription by deleting it, access to data in the Subscription is immediately disabled. We hold your data for a 2 week grace period, during which time you can recover your data. After the 2 week grace period ends, your Subscription data is permanently deleted.

  2. User Management Data - User management data includes user identity (names and email addresses of Ease users), Subscription access settings, user billing information, and user support interactions. We receive this data when you sign up to use Ease, or when you contact support. User management data is used to enforce authorized access to Subscriptions, to ensure that payments are correct, and to support our users.

User management data is encrypted and can only be accessed by authorized systems and employees. User management data is visible to the employees that require such access - for example, an employee helping you with a billing issue will need temporary knowledge of your identity and billing history.

We never sell or share User management data.

You can control this data by setting your name and email address when you sign up for Ease, or by editing your contact or billing information.

When you delete your user account, access to your account and your Subscriptions are immediately disabled. We hold your data for a 2 week grace period, during which time you can recover your data. After the 2 week grace period ends, your account and Subscription data are permanently deleted.

  3. Product Use Data - Product use data helps us understand how our product or web site is used, and whether or not it is behaving correctly. We use cookies as part of collecting this data. Product Use Data does not contain personally-identifiable information (PII) or user data; in other words users are anonymous within Product Use Data. We use this data to troubleshoot problems and verify solutions, and to help us decide which product improvements to invest in.

Product use data can be de-anonymized by connecting anonymous identifiers with User Management Data - for example, a support employee may do this to help troubleshoot an error a user is experiencing. This de-anonymization requires permissioned access to User Management Data, which is only granted to employees that require it.

Product use data is encrypted and can only be accessed by authorized systems and employees.

We never sell or share Product use data.

Product use data does not contain personal information, and cannot be accessed or changed by users.

  4. Partner Data - Partner data includes any data held or used by vendors or partners as part of the services they provide to our products. We use carefully selected vendors or partners to provide high-quality functionality that Ease and our web site rely on. For example, we use Microsoft, Google, and Apple for authentication; and Plaid for bank data integration. Whenever we integrate with a partner, their privacy policy is in effect for the portion of user data they are responsible for. For more information on individual integrations, see the Partner Integrations section below.

Partner data is something you setup inside and/or outside of our application (Ease) or our web site. For example, when you create an Ease Subscription, you may choose to use an existing Google account to sign in to Ease - doing so can improve security and convenience each time you sign in. This setup process creates a trusted connection between your account on Google, and the Ease subscription that you own.

Partner data is owned by the partner; their privacy policy is in effect for their data. All partner data is encrypted and protected by access controls that restrict access to the data.

Use of Partner data is optional - you may start or stop how partners are used for your Subscription at any time. For example: You can change authentication methods; or you can disable use of Plaid for bank integration. For more information on individual integrations, see the Partner Integrations section below.

  5. Marketing and Pre-Sales Data - Marketing and pre-sales data is information that you provide to us for marketing or sales purposes. For example, you may sign up for a product newsletter by providing us with your name and email address. We use this information to contact you for the purposes you selected.

Marketing and pre-sales data is encrypted and access is restricted to employees that require access for their job functions. We never share marketing and pre-sales data.

Anyone may opt out from our marketing or sales communications at any time; upon doing so your personal information is deleted.

Data Stored in Your Browser

Ease stores a copy of recent Subscription data in your browser for the best user experience, and so you can access or update your data when an internet connection is unavailable or flakey. Ease cannot function without this in-browser data.

The data stored in your browser is protected by the browser - it is isolated by the browser to the domain that stored the data. This data is also protected by security controls in your operating system or device, including disk encryption or file encryption on most devices. However, the level of protection varies depending on your browser, operating system, the strength of your device login, and the strength of your Ease login.

Cookies

Ease (https://ease.app) uses cookies and/or other browser storage for the following essential purposes:

  1. Authentication - To allow you to sign in once per session, instead of signing in each time the page loads.
  2. Product Use Data - To allow accurate recording of product use - which is essential for support, ensuring security, and ensuring proper product behavior.

Our web site (https://fintellect.io) uses cookies and/or other browser storage for the following purposes:

  1. Authentication - To access private information, you must be authenticated. This use of cookies is essential because it is needed to preserve your authentication across pages.
  2. Product Use Data - To allow accurate recording of product use. This is essential to verify security and proper behavior. We do not collect personal information in our Product use data, so we do not require a cookie banner for our web site.

We do not use 3rd party or marketing cookies.

Partner Integrations

We use carefully selected vendors or partners to provide high-quality functionality that Ease and our web site rely on. Whenever we integrate with a partner, their privacy policy is in effect for the portion of user data they are responsible for. This section provides information about the partners we use, their privacy policies, and what you can do to exercise your data rights.

User Identity Integration

When you setup an Ease subscription or create an account on our web site, you setup how you wish to sign-in. You can create new credentials specific to our sites (email + password), or you can use existing accounts at Microsoft, Google, or Apple to prove your identity. If you choose to use an existing external account to sign in, we create a trusted link between the identity provider and your user account.

Identity providers vouch for your identity each time you sign in. Each of these identity providers also sends us your name, email address, and profile picture during the setup process (if you allow it). Identity providers do not send us your password or other private credentials.

Microsoft Accounts

You may choose to use your Microsoft personal account to sign in to your Subscription. If you do, the Microsoft Privacy Statement - Microsoft account applies to this service.

Google Accounts

You may choose to use your Google account to sign in to your Subscription. If you do, the Google Privacy Policy applies to this service.

Bank Integration

Ease allows you to connect to your accounts at bank web sites. This requires you to have sign in credentials at each bank you wish to connect. We use a service named Plaid to connect to your bank and send us your transactions and account balance.

When you link your financial accounts for automatic transaction download through Plaid, Plaid's End-User Privacy Policy applies to such signup and subsequent collection of bank data. The first time you setup automatic transaction download, you will need to agree to this policy.

Use of Plaid is optional - you may enable or disable Plaid connections for each of your banks at any time. You may also ask Plaid to delete your account credentials and data at any time. Connecting to or disconnecting from your bank does not affect existing data in your Ease Subscription.

Plaid provides a Plaid User Portal, which you can use to view and control the connections you’ve made through Plaid.
